A 15-minute job-search reset

A growing list of tabs can make it hard to decide what to do next. Set aside 15 minutes to organize the opportunities you already have and choose one useful action. This is a planning exercise, not a promise of results within a particular time.

You need a notebook, a simple document, or an application tracker. No signup is needed to use this guide.

Minutes 0–3: choose your target

Write down one target role, the locations where you can work, and two things your next job needs to offer. Be specific enough to make a decision when you read a posting. If several titles describe the same work, keep a short list of those alternatives.

Minutes 3–7: review three roles

Open the employer’s original posting for each opportunity. Read the responsibilities, location, requirements, and application instructions. Record what looks relevant and what you still need to confirm. A matching title alone does not establish that a role is right for you.

Minutes 7–11: keep one list

For each role, record the employer, job title, posting link, current status, and next action. If you already applied, include the application date. Plan a follow-up when appropriate and respect any timeline or contact instructions the employer provides.

Minutes 11–15: choose today’s action

Pick one action you can complete: finish an application, check a requirement, or prepare an interview example. If you are preparing an example, write what you did, how you did it, and a result you can explain truthfully. You do not need to finish your entire job search today.

Keep the plan useful

Return to your list before opening more tabs. Update completed actions, remove opportunities you no longer want, and decide what comes next. Adjust the time you spend to your circumstances; the aim is a usable plan.
