Your 7-day job-search reset
You do not need to solve your entire job search today. Give yourself one useful task each day. Spend about 20 minutes on each step, or spread it across smaller sessions. This is a planning schedule, not a deadline for getting hired.
Day 1 · Choose a clear target
Write down one target role, two related job titles, your preferred locations, and your essential requirements. Separate what you need from what you would simply like. Output: a short search brief you can use to judge each opportunity.
Day 2 · Build one reliable list
Review three opportunities on the employers’ original websites. Record the company, title, posting link, application status, and next action. Confirm the location and requirements instead of relying on the title alone. Output: three opportunities you understand.
Day 3 · Bring your experience into focus
Choose one role. Match its main responsibilities to work you have actually done. Write three examples using the situation, your specific action, and the result. Use numbers only when you can support them. Output: a small bank of truthful examples.
Day 4 · Complete one thoughtful application
Check that your resume makes the relevant experience easy to find. Review dates, contact details, spelling, and any application answers. Submit through the employer’s instructions, then record the date and confirmation. Output: one completed application and an accurate record.
Day 5 · Start one useful conversation
Choose someone you know or a relevant professional contact. Explain the kind of work you are exploring and ask one specific question about their experience or advice. Keep it brief and respect a nonresponse. Output: one thoughtful message, without asking a stranger to do your whole search.
Day 6 · Practice your interview story
Say a 60–90 second introduction aloud: your relevant background, one example of your contribution, and why this role interests you. Practice two work examples and prepare three questions about expectations, the team, and success in the role. Output: a concise introduction and questions you actually want answered.
Day 7 · Review and choose next week’s focus
Update your application list. What did you complete? What needs clarification? Where did you receive a response? With a small sample, look for questions to investigate rather than drawing firm conclusions. Choose three actions for next week and set time aside for life outside your search. Output: a realistic next-week plan.
